Profile Description
Dr. Satyendra Persaud is a Consultant Urologist at the San Fernando General Hospital and a Lecturer in Urology at the University of the West Indies. He is also the Coordinator of the Doctor of Medicine Residency Program in Urology at UWI. With a medical career spanning over a decade, Dr. Persaud has established himself as a highly skilled and dedicated urologist specializing in kidney stones and prostate cancer. Dr. Persaud graduated in 2005 and completed his General Surgery training in Barbados in 2010. He then went on to complete his urology training at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, in 2015, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in Urology. Notably, he was the first graduate of the Trinidadian urology program. Following his training, Dr. Persaud pursued further specialization in Endourology in the United Kingdom as part of the International Surgical Training Program of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed two years of subspecialty training at Bradford Royal Infirmary and Colchester Hospital. An expert in kidney stones, Dr. Persaud has contributed significantly to the field through his extensive research, with a particular focus on kidney stones and prostate cancer. He has published several research papers in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at numerous conferences, earning several awards for his work. Dr. Persaud is a Fellow of the Caribbean College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is an active member of the International Society of Urology (SIU) and the American Urological Association, serving on the Endourology Committee of the SIU Academy. He has also been involved with the Caribbean Urological Association, where he served as Organizing Secretary. Additionally, he contributed to the SIU Academy’s Programs for Developing World sub-committee. Passionate about education, Dr. Persaud is responsible for both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Urology at UWI. His role as a full-time lecturer ensures that he plays an integral part in shaping the next generation of urologists. Dr. Persaud is dedicated to patient education and believes strongly in empowering his patients to take an active role in their healthcare decisions.
